Being A Turk Over There

Most important part of this blog is being Turkish part I would say. As I mentioned a bit in the other part of my blog, although they picture Canada as one of the most modern country, one of the most organized and peaceful, safe, positive -what ever you say- one important thing was missing, and that one thing is the most important thing for us Turks in order to be happy and live a good life. That thing is sincerity, which we call “samimiyet” in Turkish. For example, when you go to a Barber shop or butcher or a local drink store, -whatever you name it- let’s say the bill is $20.50 but you have only $20. The person in that store would not accept you and look in your face with concerning eyes which implies you to not come here again. But if the same situation was in Turkey, the person in store would say ”don’t pay it now please pay it later”, I’m really sure about it. Another example would be asking for a lighter from a stranger -I know that would be a simple example but it explains a lot- I witnessed so many times that the person who has a lighter ask money from the person who wanted it. If you were in Turkey, apart from giving a lighter to a stranger, a cigarette will also be given with the lighter at the same time and a happy warm smile most of the time, following by a sincere conversation about life. These examples would go on until forever but the main idea here is that being a Turk in Canada is really hard, because of the mentality of other people over there. My advice would be to leave all your Turkish emotions, feelings, thoughts aside and think systematically in order to survive in that environment. It was really hard for me to do that that’s why I came back to my lovely country.
